In September 2008, my friend and colleague Pieter Alderden and I boarded Ukraine International flight PS102 from Amsterdam to Kiev-Boryspil on September 6, 2008. Next to some flights in vintage Russian transports, like; - AeroSvit/Lugansk Airlines An-24RV Kyiv-Boryspil to Dnepropetrovsk, Motor Sich An-140 Zaporizhzhia to Boryspil, and Donbassaero Yak-42D Borispol to Lviv, we visited the State Aviation Museum at Zhuliany Airport. Very sadly, Pieter passed away in June 2017.

On Thursday, April 28, 2011, the Embraer, sustained substantial damage in a landing accident at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport (SVO), Russia.
The airplane was arriving from Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine with the copilot being the Pilot Flying. The approach was flown with flaps at 22°.
During the landing roll on runway 25R at Sheremetyevo, the airplane did not decelerate as expected. The pilot flying used the emergency braking system without any noticeable effect. At a ground speed of 70 kts the end of the runway was approaching. The pilot flying attempted to use a high speed turn off but the airplane ground looped and ran off the paved surface. The main landing gear collapsed. Skidded off the runway while taxiing to the terminal after landing, main landing gear collapsed. Gear brakes failure is suspected to cause the incident. The jet was damaged beyound repair.

On Wednesday, July 15, 2009, ‘Charlie-Papa-Gulf’ was destroyed when it struck terrain near Qazvin, Iran, 16 minutes after takeoff. The airplane departed Tehran-Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA), Iran to Yerevan Airport (EVN), Armenia.
After takeoff the flight was cleared to climb to 32000 feet. While climbing through at 28800 feet, the plane suddenly turned 270 degrees and entered a rapid descent to 14700 feet in just 55 seconds (which would be an average of 256 feet/sec). The airplane exploded on impact and disintegrated, creating a 10 m deep crater with small pieces of debris scattered around the impact area.
Probable Cause:
A fatigue failure of a disk of the first stage of the low-pressure compressor (LPC) of engine no.1. The uncontained failure of this part in the tail of the aircraft resulted in a loss of control.
