Flying Tigers DC-8 bound for Belgium
A group of OldJets fans are trying to rescue a former Flying Tigers DC-8 flight simulator
By Guy van Herbruggen
Eric Verlie, Peter Kirschen, Charles Kennedy and I are in the process of purchasing the ex-Flying Tigers DC-8-63 flight simulator and we are raising $10,000 for the shipping of the sim from Texas to Saint-Ghislain, Belgium to build up our aviation collection (joining the Sabena DC-10 cockpit of OO-SLA, and 737-400 CPT cockpit procedure trainer and other items), making it one of the very few preserved DC-8 cockpits in the world, and the only DC-8 simulator to be preserved. Planned shipping from Galveston, TX is at the end of May, and will be open to the public by appointment at the end of summer 2014.
In the process, we are creating a coffee table book about the history of the DC-8 and the simulator in Flying Tigers service in words and pictures. Donors who are Flying Tiger level will receive an original cockpit instrument from a DC-8. Flying Tiger level and Tiger Club level will have their name (or corporate identity) in the front page of the book and they will receive free copy as well as their name on a plaque on the entry door to the simulator. GoFundMe is up and running so please visit us athttp://www.gofundme.com/dc8simulator, and please send this out to anyone you think will be interested, either in making a contribution, or in sharing to their own contacts. Thank you! Attached are a few additional pictures. Thanks for your contribution in making this happen! Kind Regards, Guy / Peter / Eric / Charlie |
