This is a tribute page dedicated to the wonderfull classic propliners that visited Miami International airport during the 80s & 90s.
Surinam Airways Douglas DC-6 N47058, basking in the Florida sun in the late 70's. Last operator was Aerosol Colombia. The Douglas was written-off after a belly landing on the runway of Villavicencio, Colombia in 1994.
An Air Florida Commuter Martin 4-0-4 on an oil stained Miami ramp.
Tampa Colombia Douglas DC-6 HK-1276 at Miami, with some storm clouds brewing in the background. Last operator was Transamazonica Colombia. She is listed damaged beyound repair after an emergency landing at Mitu, Colombia on May 21, 1994.
Eldorado Ltda. Curtiss Commando CP-1617 is seen here parked in the Corrosion Corner one day in December 1980. That same month she made her ferry flight to La Paz, Bolivia. Last operator was Universal and she was damaged beyound repair at Beni, Bolivia on May 14, 1991.
Latin Cargo Douglas DC-6 HP-493 flew for Pan American World Airways (PANAM) from 1952 until 1968. She was scrapped at Panama-City during 1982.
Lacsa Lockheed Electra TI-LRO started her career with Eastern Airlines in 1959. She was broken-up at Miami in the 80's.
Long time Miami resident N355M was leased by Bahamasair from InterAir Inc. during the late 70's. She is listed scrapped during the 80's.
Air Florida Lockheed Electra N24AF on the Miami ramp in 1972. That same year Barbara Streisand had a number one hit in the US billboard with 'The way we were'.
Carib West Douglas DC-4 8P-CWA rolled off the Douglas production line in 1944. She is listed stored and later scrapped at Dakar, Senegal in 1977.
Lanica Douglas DC-6 AN-BFM parked in the Corrosion Corner. 'Fox Mike' last operator was Aeronica from Nicaragua. She flew into the Cerro Fábrega, Panamá on May 24, 1988.
SAM Colombia Douglas DC-4 HK-528 once flew for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. The last operator was Aerolineas Medellin. She is listed broken-up at Medellin during November 1983.
ARGO S.a. Lockheed Constellation HI-328 is caught between flights on a sticky day at Mianmi Airport. She crashed into sea on approach to Henry Truman Airport, St. Thomas Virgen Islands, on October 26, 1981.
ALFA Chile Curtiss Commando CC-CAM. ALFA stands for Aerolineas Flecha Austral Airlines. Last operator was Sabeni Ltda. During that time she wore registration CP-1593. On October 11, 1985 she crashed into a mountain en route to La Paz, Bolivia.
Aerolineas ARGO S.a. Curtiss Commando HI-208 seen here on a sweltering Miami tarmac. She crashed into sea on take-off from San Juan, Isla Grande Airport, Puerto Rico on February 8, 1977.
Aviateca Fokker Friendship F27-200 TG-AEA awaiting her next mission. Last operator was WDL from Germany. She is presently stored at Cologne/Bönn Airport.
Caraïbische Lucht Transport Maatschappij (C.L.T.M.) Douglas DC-6 N6109C is seen here on the Bellomy Lawson ramp. Last operator was Aerial Transit. The Douglas was scrapped at Miami in the last months of 1997.
Caraïbische Lucht Transport Maatschappij (C.L.T.M.) Curtiss Commando PJ-CLD receiving some technical attention at the Miami ramp in the early 70's. Her last operator was TALA Colombia. She was stored and finally broken-up at Bogotá during 1994.
Mackey International Airlines Douglas DC-6 N90705 sitting pretty under the intense Florida sunshine in September 2008. She was broken-up at Fort Lauderdale in September 1979.
Eddy photographed this Lineas Aereas del Caribe Douglas DC-6 HK-1706 in front of a Miami cargo warehouse. The Douglas crashed into mountain Cerro El Tablazo Subachaque, Colombia on February 19, 1982.
A dozen of well used oil drums occupy the Miami ramp alongside this beautifully ARCA Colombia Curtiss Commando HK-1322 in the mid 60's.
On March 13, 1984 control problems forced the crew of this Curtiss Commando to return to Barranquilla Airport. The aircraft touched down, rolled 100 meter and lifted off again. The Curtiss reached a height of 20 meter, entered a stall and crashed onto the runway. The aircraft was crewed by four former Colombian Air Force pilots. According to authorities no flight plan had been filed. The flight was named 'suspicious' because several firearms were found in the wreckage along with 50 plastic drums that are known to be used in production of narcotics.

Cayman Cargo Douglas DC-6 N61267 looking magnificent in the Florida sun. Her last operator was Aerial Transit. The Douglas was withdrawn and stored at Borinquen, Puerto Rico by 2004 and cancelled from the US register in April 2013.
Andes Douglas DC-6 HC-AQB engine cowls are blackened with grime and farther back, the landing gear doors are streaked and smeared with a mixture of dirty exhaust soot and oil. She was stored at Guayaguil in the 80's and presumably broken-up in the early 90's.
Pictured in the twilight of its career, Aeronaves del Peru CC-106 Yukon, OB-R-1005 stands idle on the ramp at Miami in the late 70's. Last operator was Virunga Air Cargo from Zaïre. She was scrapped at Kinshasa in 1984.
Faucett Peru Douglas DC-6 OB-R-750 is seen parked at Miami. The last operator was Frigorifoco Reyes of La Paz, Bolivia. On May 8, 1987 upon landing at La Paz-El Alto Airport, one of the main landing gear collapsed. The aircraft went out of control, veered off runway and came to rest upside down, broken in three and bursting into flames.
It was a hot, muggy day in June 1980 when Eddy photographed this Aero B Venezuela DC-6 at Miami. Last operator was Everts Air Cargo. She is listed stored with many other DC-6's at Fairbanks Airport, Alaska.
Faucett Peru Douglas DC-4 OB-R-463 stands at a rather wet and miserable Miami Airport. Sold for spares to Fri Reyes. Derelict at La Paz.
Music City Airways Convair 340 N4815C enjoying the evening bliss. Last operator was Jet One Express. On March 15, 2012 the Convairliner crashed into a lagoon shortly after departure from San Juan-Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, Puerto Rico.
ALM Dutch Antilles Airlines Douglas DC-6 PJ-DSA taken on the west park circa late 1972, just after a serious downpour had passed through heading east. Last operator was Transamazonica Colombia. She is listed damaged beyound repair after an emergency landing at Mitu, Colombia on May 21, 1994.
Linea Aerea Sud America Curtiss Commando CC-CCB looked rather lackluster back in the late 70's. The last operator was TAVIC from Bolivia. She is listed scrapped somewhere in Bolivia.
Lanica Nicaragua Douglas DC-6 AN-BFO bottom seems polished to perfection. Last operator was Aeronica. On December 21, 1987, this beautiful DC-6 crashed into a river near San Carlos, Costa Rica after a multiple engine failure.
Cargo - CAir Douglas DC-4 N888RH poses for Eddy Gual's camara in the late 70's. Famous DC-4 operator Brooks Air Fuel from Fairbanks, Alaska was her last operator. On April 17, 1995 the Douglas was destroyed in a landing accident at Kivalina airstrip.
Guyana Airways Corp. Douglas DC-6 8R-GEC at Miami. In the background, the Martin 4-0-4 CP-1917 of Transporte Aereos Samuel Selum is seen. Most probably she was awaiting her delivery flight to La Paz, Bolivia. Last owner of the Guyana DC-6 was the well known Air Cargo Express for Fairbanks, Alaska. The Douglas was used for spares to keep the rest of the Air Cargo Express fleet going.
Air Holiday Lockheed Electra N128US at Miami in 1972. Her a color scheme hints at previous operation with Northwest Orient Airlines. Last operator was New Air Charter Service from Zaïre. She was damaged beyond repair somewhere in Zaïre in August 1992.
Rich International Curtiss Commando N4873V enjoys the sunshine. On August 8, 1975 the Curtiss ditched into sea while on approach to Aguadilla-Broiquen Airport, Puerto Rico.
