Asociación Amigos de la Aviación Histórica
Aeropuerto de Son Bonet
A couple of day ago (Dec. 2024), I visited the DC-3 of the Asociación Amigos de la Aviación Histórica at Son Bonet Airport which is situated on the outskirts of Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
Originally this DC-3 has been manufactured in 1941 at the Douglas Long Beach plant as a C-47-DL with serial 41-18417. When her military career was over, her civilian life started when she was exported to Colombia with registration HK-1201. During January 1956 she was brought back to the US by aircraft broker L.B. Smith Aircraft Corp. from Miami, Florida. The next three years she worked for the Compagnie Nationale Air France in the French Caribbean as F-OART. Her working years during the 60's are vague. In April 1977 she appeared at Hal Far, Malta with Arax Airlines (Nigeria) titels and registration N330. During September 1988 she was bought by Aeromarket Express S.A. and registrated EC-EJB. From 1994 till 2006 she was registrated to Palfe S.A. After 2006 she was stored at Bonet and some years later placed on display in front of the airport terminal.
Life is good! - Working with good friends on an old Douglas is one of the best things man can do.
